Inspiration : "My inspirations come from nature. Is a tree perfect? Its bark becomes weathered, even scarred as it ages, yet it is still a beautiful tree, no?"
What you should know : Although his family has traditionally worked in textiles in their native Turkey, Yaakov says he “eventually decided to use my design experience in a new field and jewelry, so much a part of life in Istanbul, seemed like a natural extension to me." Using techniques that date back to height of the ancient Anatolian culture, Hillel's jewelry is all hand carved, hammered and finished by hand. While his designs are made by the best artisans that can be found in Istanbul, they aren't perfectly symmetrical.
"We're using the same technique that has been proven for thousands of years. The finishing requires a master's touch; we don't polish so hard that the craftsmen's details fade away." More luxe than Yaakov’s Y&H collection, this line is crafted from 24K gold, oxidized silver and precious gemstones.
"Every piece has a very human aspect to it. Like nature, it isn't perfect."
