Halloween looming just around the corner and nights getting longer, October seems like a perfect month to pull out those dark edgy pieces that may have been hiding away during the hot summer months. Insert the queen of drama pieces Jacqueline Cullen here. Her use of Whitby Jet, a prehistoric black fossil ca. 180 million years old and most commonly associated with Victorian mourning jewellery, is as signature to the label as ghosts are with Halloween .
With just the right amount of spookiness for the season, my pick this week is the 18K gold bead ring from her Gold Dust collection. The organic shape has been touched delicately with handmade granulated 18K gold beads adding a subtle glimmer and deep contrast to the piece.
While I believe that Jacqueline is trying to highlight the material for it’s own richness and trying to steer us away from associating it with death and morbidity, it seems to me that just for this special month synonymous with dark allure, adding the connotation to this ring might just do the trick (or treat)!
